Graduate House is a residential hall of the
Australian National University located on campus. It houses around 150 residents and is only available to postgradute students, both research and coursework.Facilities
Graduate House is three storied with a total of 150 rooms. There are 141 single rooms (five of which are designated disabled rooms) and 9 double rooms. For a weekly
tariff , students get the largest rooms ANU offers. The weekly tariff includes water usage but does not include electricity. Each room has kitchen, bathroom and toilet facilities and also include a desk, office chair, lounge chair, telephone, internet and ANU intranet access, electric heater and bed and bedding. As Graduate House is part of theUniversity House community, residents of Graduate House are entitled to House Dinner at University House at no cost each Wednesday. The House is within walking distance of major ANU facilitiesandCanberra city centre.The large common room has cable television, a large stereo TV, hi-fi system and video player, sofas and a piano. There is a meeting room and a music room. Newspapers, magazines, books, games equipment (pool table & table tennis table) and are supplied. There are two laundries. Car parking at Graduate House is very limited.
tudent Population
Graduate House has long enjoyed a reputation for providing a quiet and undisturbed environment in which postgraduate students can work and live. There are over 150 students from many different countries who form a thriving and supportive community of scholars pursuing postgraduate coursework or research qualifications.
Administration
The Master has overall responsibility for all aspects of the governance of the House. The General Manager is responsible for the overall running of the House, which includes assisting the Master with the formulation and implementation of House policies. The Administration Manager has responsibility for the day-to-day running of Graduate House. The reception staff perform all the day-to-day reception duties and services to residents. There are three Maintenance staff members at University House who attend to minor maintenance at Graduate House.
There are six paid Residential Scholars appointed annually. They are responsible for weekly after hours duty, fire Warden duties among others. There is also a Social Committee formed from four or more volunteer residents elected by and from the residents. Student Representatives are elected by and from the residents of Graduate House. Representatives meet four times a year with the Master, and occupy the student resident positions on the Graduate House Advisory Committee.
