History
Nuestras Raices was created in 1996 to address the need for the arts in the community of Gardena and its surrounding cities. Nuestras Raices, a registered and trademarked 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, was solidified when concerned parents participating in the organization since 1996 united to form the Board of Directors of Nuestras Raices in 2002. Nuestras Raices was a nomad group for many years and served about 50 members, practicing at recreation centers and parks in Gardena and in Torrance, California. Nuestras Raices has finally found a home in Gardena California. Now, Nuestras Raices has its own cultural arts center and has tripled the community it serves.
There are over 150 dancers and musicians learning and performing at Nuestras Raices. The organization has students as young as 3 years old as well as college students and working professionals. Important partnerships have honored Nuestras Raices since 2002. Andrés Aguilar, Elizabeth Martínez, Julio Delgado, Jorge Andrés Herrera, and Juan Pablo Herrera have joined the teaching team and have contributed to the excellence of our organization.
Nuestras Raices has amazed many audiences. They filmed a music video "Audio Karate," have been guests at Univision's morning show, have performed at Royce Hall, the James Armstrong Theater, the Marsee Auditorium, Disneyland, and many more venues.
