Gaogouli County

Gaogouli County was one of three prefectures of Xuantu Commandery in southeastern Manchuria. ['Gina L. Barnes', "State Formation in Korea", 2001 Curzon Press, page 22'] It was established by the Han Dynasty after the fall of Gojoseon to keep Goguryeo tribes in check. ["Gaogouli County", "Encyclopedia Britannica Korean Edition"] From 75 BC to 12 AD, Goguryeo tribes were under administration of Gaogouli County and engaged in client state relationship with the Han Dynasty. ['Gina L. Barnes', "State Formation in Korea", 2001 Curzon Press, page 22'] In 12 AD, Goguryeo rebelled against the Han Dynasty and established independence. ['Gina L.
