- Longborough Festival Opera
Longborough Festival Opera is an opera festival held in an opera house in Longborough, a village in north Gloucestershire [http://homepages.tesco.net/~longborough.history/VILLAGE.HTM] .
The festival has its roots in Banks Fee Opera, a small festival that was held in the grounds of the family home of Martin Graham, in the same village. In 1997 the Graham family moved to New Banks Fee and from 1998 LFO productions were staged in the opera house in the grounds of the new house. The festival has been held annually ever since.
Longborough is most famous for its specialisation in Wagner and its critically acclaimed production of Das Rheingold [http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/stage/opera/article1983756.ece] , the first installment of the Ring Cycle (first staged in 2007), which has never before been staged in a privately owned opera house.
The chairman of the festival is Martin Graham, the music director Anthony Negus and the artistic director Alan Privett.
Education at Longborough
Longborough Festival has since 2003 been involved in education projects for in two ways; through workshops in local schools and productions for young artists to perform. The 2008 education production was "L'Incoronazione di Poppea" and local children were featured in the Festival's production of "The Cunning Little Vixen".
Future projects will include a Young Artists' production of "La Boheme" and opportunities for children and young singers in "A Midsummer Night's Dream".
