The "SEQUENCES real-time art festival" is held in the capital of
Iceland ,Reykjavik . Its emphasis is time-based work,performance ,sound art , video and music.Concept
The aim of the anual independent art festival is to celebrate and exhibit cutting-edge visual art with a special emphasis on art in public/urban spaces. SEQUENCES features time-based art - such as
performance , video andsound art - and creates a cross-platform for these art forms as well as music and design.SEQUENCES is the first art festival inIceland to focus on visual art alone and is an offspring of the dynamic art scene that thrives inReykjavik . The festival is a venue for young artists to exhibit their work and connect with foreign artists who work in similar or in the same media.More than two hundred artists from around the world have participated in the festival. Along with the artist-run galleries, the bigger museums and institutions inIceland have participated as well: "Reykjavik Art Museum", "i8", "Safn", "Gallery Turpentine" and "The National Museum of Iceland".For the third SEQUENCES real-time art festival in 2008 (October 11th to 17th) the curatorial board has decided to acknowledge renowned artists for their notable contribution to real-time art mediums. The honorary artist of SEQUENCES 2008 is the Icelandic artist "Rúrí".
History
SEQUENCES was established in
Reykjavik in 2006. The festival was founded by four artist-run galleries: "The Living Art Museum", "Kling & Bang Gallery", "The Dwarf Gallery" and "Gallery Bananananas" (closed since 2007) — as well as theCenter for Icelandic Art (CIA.IS). For the first time, the SEQUENCES Festival took place in different locations in the city center ofReykjavik , accompanied by exhibitions and video / film nights.
