|TeleG was established as the first daily digital Gaelic TV channel in
Scotland on31 October 1999 . It is currently only available on the Freeview platform.Programmes are transmitted on TeleG between 6–7pm each day.
The
Broadcasting Act 1996 , requires that programmes shown will be repeats of programmes transmitted on analogue channels (many of which are first shown outside peak hours). TheCommunications Act 2003 created theGaelic Media Service which will decide on the future development of Gaelic Broadcasting services.The Broadcaster and service provider of TeleG is
SDN , the company which holds the licence for DTT multiplex A. SDN Ltd, then owned byNTL ,S4C andUnited News and Media , was awarded the Multiplex A licence in May 1998. Part of the capacity on Multiplex A is reserved for services provided by Five,S4C inWales and Gaelic programming in Scotland. SDN was purchased byITV plc in2005 .The channel will continue to broadcast after the BBC Alba begins broadcasting in 2008. The GMS will review the licence in 2010.
