Sekolah Menengah Awang Semaun is a government secondary school in
Brunei Darussalam . The school campus is located alongside the nation's largest water village known locally asKampong Ayer , close to the capital,Bandar Seri Begawan . Kampong Ayer (or Kampung Air) is situated on theBrunei River .Sekolah Menengah Awang Semaun - aka SMAS, was built in
1983 and serves the local community's youth, both boys and girls. The national curriculum is taught to students entering Year 8 through to Year 12. National examinations plus Cambridge external examinations are available to students. A range of technical and business courses are also offered as well as computing and ICT programmes.The staff include a wide range of local and expatriate teachers. The medium of instruction for most subjects is English. The school boasts a wide range of quality facilities including a multi purpose hall, well stocked library, full size football field and running tracks with a large covered grandstand for spectators.
At the end of each school day the school campus doubles as a venue for religious classes administered also by the government.
