Terry Duggan (
15 April ,1932 -1 May ,2008 ) was acomedian andactor who had a successful career in cabaret and variety and played numerous character roles on television. He was married to the actressAnna Karen , best-known for playing the part of 'Olive' in theITV sitcom On the Buses , in which Duggan often appeared.Born in
Hoxton , London he began performing as a young child and learned to become an acrobat which later led to him becoming a stuntman in films.With a gift for comedy, Duggan turned to acting and made a name for himself as a stand-up comedian in the clubs. He was known for his drunk act - in the tradition of
Freddie Frinton andJimmy James . He would enter a theatre or club through its audience, many of whom were unaware that the drunk was part of his act. In addition to this, he also performed the drunk act on several music hall bills.In TV he carried out many appearances in 1960s series
Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) ,Please Sir! from the early 1970s,Bob Martin ,The Bill from the 1980s to date,Only Fools and Horses andAre You Being Served? He also appeared in many films including The Horror of Frankenstein, Poor Cow, Family Life andStanley Kubrick ’s2001 A Space Odyssey .He was also a pantomime performer, often appearing with his wife Anna Karen.
Duggan was a long-standing member of the
Grand Order of Water Rats . He had been ill for several years and died onMay 1 ,2008 aged 76.References
