The Station
The station was built in 1986 to link Amsterdam Centraal and
Schiphol Airport . The other stations built on this line were Amsterdam Sloterdijk and Amsterdam De Vlugtlaan which was closed in May 2000 for the construction of theHemboog .This line has made journey time from Centraal Station and Schiphol as little as 16 minutes.Nederlandse Spoorwegen
From 1986 when the station was opened and 1996 the station was an 'Intercity station'. This means that Intercity trains called at this station. Since that time only stopping trains have called at this station. Before 1996 you could travel directly to Brussels, Vlissingen, Enschede, Groningen, Leeuwarden and Berlin.
GVB
The platform is an island platform which has a direct link onto GVB tram line's 1 and 17. The main entrance is further south from the tramlines. In the early 2000's the stairs to the tram lines were closed by high gates. This was due to lots of
fare evasion with people running off the train and straight onto a tram. At the beginning of 2007 the gates were opened again during the day only.Until 1988 the only tram here was the 1 but that year the 17 was extended from the Surinameplein to Osdorp following a different route to the 1 into the city. In 1997 GVB opened its fourth metro line, the 50 (Isolatorweg - Gein). Lelylaan is the 5th metro station from Isolatorweg. The bus station for Lelylaan can be found by the main entrance/exit.
Train Services
From 1986 to present the train services at this station have changed majorly. Since the end of 2003 you can also travel to Zaandam and Hoorn without changing. This service led to the closure of Amsterdam De Vlugchtlaan station.
