Southwestern Michigan College is a two-year college near Dowagiac, Michigan.

History

Southwestern Michigan College was founded on November 19th, 1964 after the voters of Cass County, Michigan approved a 1.5 million dollar tax levy to fund a Cass County Community College. The college is located three miles outside of Dowagiac, Michigan and opened its doors in September of 1966 with 15 Full-time and 20 Part-time instructors and 525 students.

Academic Studies Division

The division of Academic Studies at SMC is made up of the following departments:
* Business
* Communications
* Developmental Studies
* Fine and Performing Arts
* Mathematics/Sciences
* Social Sciences/Humanities
* School of Nursing and Human Services
* Wellness and Sports Education

Division of Advanced Technologies

The Division of Advanced Technologies at SMC offers certificate and degree programs through the School of Technology. The division also offers apprenticeship programs, internship opportunities and business and industry training services through the Michigan Technical Education Center (MTECsm @ SMC) located on the Niles Area Campus.
