In the 1937 renumbering of Monmouth County highways, County Route 12A was designated as a part of County Route 12; by 1939 it was designated as 12A. This route was taken over as a county highway on April 11, 1900 from the present
New Jersey Route 35 to the William H. English property nearMcClees Creek , a distance of 1.80 miles.
