Georges Henry

Georges Henry is a French-Brazilian musician born in Paris in 1919. He played with Django Reinhardt in the late 1930's in Paris were he became a good friend of singer Henri Salvador. Henry then joined the Lecuona Cuban Boys as a trumpet player. During the Second World War, he met Salvador in Argentina. Salvador was part of Ray Ventura's jazz band, and Ventura asked Henry to join the band as well. The band finished the war in Brazil, and Henry remained in that country and was married. He returned to France briefly in the 197O's but never went back after that. In 2006, thanks to the initiative of Belgian journalist Emmanuel de Ryckel, he again met his old friend Henri Salvador in Urca in Rio de Janeiro after 45 years. This meeting was shown on the French television channel TF1 in October 2006. Henry is still living in Amparo, close to the city of São Paulo. A monument to his career opened in Amparo in July 2008.
