accessdate = 2007-10-28 ] is an American Speedway racer who also starred in television and in film. He was the "World Motorcycle Speedway" champion in both 1981 and 1982 and rode for the highly successful Cradley Heath (England) Speedway team. He controversially retired from speedway racing the night he won his second individual speedway championship in 1982, which as it happened was being filmed as the backdrop story to his introduction to the CHiPs TV series.

He is also well known for his role as Cadet/Officer Bruce Nelson in the final season of the NBC hit tv series "CHiPs" and in the role of Bruce Christian in the 1989 film "Savage Beach" and in five of the movie's sequels. Bruce has been married for 22 years to his wife Laurie, they have 4 children.

Bruce reprised his role as Officer Bruce Nelson in the 1998 TNT tv movie "CHiPs '99". Bruce has made guest appearances in tv shows like "Just Men!", "The Facts of Life" and "Renegade".

In 1999, Penhall was inducted into the A.M.A. Motorcycle Hall of Fame.

In 2008, Bruce took over as joint promoter, along with Jeffrey Immediato, of speedway racing events at 'The Grand at Industry Hills race track in City of Industry, California.
