Fuat Uzkınay (b. 1888 - İstanbul, d.
29 March 1956 - İstanbul) First Turkish FilmmakerAfter finishing İstanbul Highschool, he take physic and chemistry classes at İstanbul University.While he start to work at School as a principal, the interest of the cinema in Ottomans also start to increasing. Uzkınay is start to give lessons to make familiarizing the cinema at his School. He was also big supporter of the building and oppening of the very first Turkish cinema in 19 March 1914. The name; National Cinema will change later on as Ali Efendi sineması. Then he learned to use the projector from Sigmund Weinberg who was the first man introducing the cinema in Ottomans.
While he was in the army, in 14 november 1914 he was shoot the destruction of Russian Monumental at Ayestefanos. This 150mt. film is known as the first movie of the Turkish Cinema. one year later in order to General Enver Paşa "Central Army Cinema Department" was founded. Sigmund Weinberg was the Chairman of the department and Uzkınay was the assistant of him.A year later Uzkınay take the chair from him.
He take education at Germany about film making. He was finished his first future movie "Himmet Aga'nin İzdivaci" in 1918 against many of difficulties. he was retired from army in 1954 and past away in 1956.
