Born in Cairo on the 28th of February 1980, Rami Serry is considered to be an icon and role model to many Egyptian teenagers around the world. His driving talents have gained him fame around Egypt and the Middle East.

Early Years

From a very young age, Serry has shown signs of extraordinary driving skills and quickly gained respect in the world of motor sport. After studying in the United States in 1998 he returned to Egypt in 2001 to pursue his goal of becoming the Egyptian Autocross champion. With limited choices in racing events around the country, Rami stuck to the Egyptian Autocross and quickly stunned the audience with his extreme driving style gaining him many fans and admirers around the country.

However, his fame turned against him in 2005 when an illegal street race [ [http://www.egypttoday.com/article.aspx?ArticleID=6029 Egypt Today: November 2005 The Need for Speed] ] took place on the main Airport road in Cairo. One of the illegal street racers lost control of his car and crashed into the crowd, injuring 12 and killing 6. The next day Serry was arrested from his home in Heliopolis for being a suspect in the lethal accident. Serry's name was in the police report done the day before after a few witnesses stated that he was driving the silver BMW partaking in the illegal race. Serry was charged with racing in the illegal race and when proven that he was not part of the actual race, he was then charged with organizing the illegal event. A young Qatari prince named Seoud Al-Thani who lost control of his car and crashed into the crowd and Moataz Bellah a young doctor escaped the scene of the accident. The Qatari prince fled to Qatar on a private jet and Moataz hid in a little town called Tanta.

Meanwhile Rami and his family were picking up the pieces and trying to prove his innocence in front of entire nation. After spending 34 days in prison, Serry proved his innocence and was interviewed on the TV show Al-Qahira Al-Youm with Amr Adib. He received direct appologies from many high ranking officials around the country for being falsely accused in a murder case. Serry's fame sky rocketed after his innocence and became a household name around the country.

Later Career

After his release he was determined to build a race track for Egypt to avoid similar accidents to take place. After many attempts to build a racing track, Serry felt like he was wasting his time in a country that was not ready for motorsport just yet. He departed from Egypt and headed to Bahrain, considered to be the home of motorsport in the Middle East. He landed a job as an editor of a popular motoring magazine in the Gulf called Arabia Motors. For two years Serry worked and raced in Bahrain gaining himself valuable experience that will prove essential later into his life in motorsport. He participated for a full season in Formula BMW and also participated in drift challenges around the Gulf extending his fame to other areas of the Middle East. Serry is now back in Egypt to start his own magazine and TV show.
