Aleksandras Štromas

Aleksandras Štromas (also referred as Aleksander Shtromas) (4 April 1931 - 13 June 1999) was a prominent Lithuanian political scientist , dissident, professor.

Biography

Aleksandras Štromas was born in Kaunas, Lithuania. During Nazi occupation of Lithuania was imprisoned into Ghetto. After he was saved from Ghetto Štromas was harbored by Antanas Sniečkus. Studied in Vilnius University, later finished Moscow University. On 1964 defended his thesis in law. Soon afterward Aleksandras Štromas became a critic of Soviet regime and had to emigrate. On 1973 he settled in United Kingdom. There he became professor of Bradford University, later worked in Saltford University. From 1989 year he delivered lectures in USA. Aleksandras Štromas died on 13 June 1999 in US.
