Vladimir Abrikosov

Vladimir Abrikosov (1880-1966) was a Catholic priest of Byzantine rite converted from Russian Orthodoxy. Converted in 1909 together his wife Anna, Abrikosov was ordained a Catholic priest of the Byzantine rite by Ukrainian Catholic Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky in 1917 . Abrikosov was arrested and sentenced to death, but his sentence was changed to perpetual exile in 1922 and in the same year obtained an audience with Pope Pius XI for discussing the situation of the Russian Catholic Church . Soon after Father Abrikosov was recognized an official member of the Congregation for Eastern Churches and procurator of the Russian Exarchate. However, Abrikosov faced accusations of being an Russian spy by a Russian officer, Baron Igor' von der Launitz and a strong opposition of Michel d'Herbigny who wanted Abrikosov's resignation of his position inside Roman Curia. After Launitz's extradition from Italy Abrikosov continuated his mission up to Herbigny's intention to abolish Russian Exarchate when left Rome to establish himself in Paris . Abrikosov died on July 22, 1966 .
