Gleb Verhovskiy

Gleb Verhovskiy (1888-1935) was an Russian Orthodox converted to Catholicism of Byzantine Rite. A former student of arts in Saint Petersburg Verhovskiy converted to Catholicism in 1909 . Verhovskiy was ordained Catholic priest in 1914 in Istanbul and after that exercised his pastoral ministry for Russian Catholics in Saint Petersburg. Verhovskiy was a member of the first Russian Catholic synod in 1917 when Leonid Fyodorov was elected Russian Catholic Exarch . After 1920 Father Verhovskiy emigrated and in 1922 came back to Istanbul for preaching however his defense of the Byzantine rite traditions and rite in disputes with Jesuits was responsable by his departure of Istanbul. In 1926 , Gleb Verhovskiy left the Russian apostolate for a ministry among Ukrainian immigrants in the United States . Verhovskiy passed away in 1932 .
