The 1890 English cricket season was the first year the County Championship was officially held, which Surrey won after winning nine out of fourteen games, and the English cricket team, captained by WG Grace, won the Ashes series 2–0 with a third Test match abandoned.

England won 2–0, but the series was more closely contested than the result says, as the English got the better of the pitch in the first Test and eked through by two wickets in the second - although it has to be said that the English were lacking key players in that Test. A third Test in Manchester was scheduled, but rained off.
