Frans Maurits Jaeger was born on
May 11 ,1877 inThe Hague ,The Netherlands . He started studying chemistry inLeiden in 1895, passing his degree in 1898, and his doctorate in 1900. Thereafter he also studiedcrystalography inBerlin ,Germany .In 1904 he was appointed
assistant professor (privaatdocent) at the University ofAmsterdam . In 1908 he moved to the University ofGroningen aslecturer and in 1909 was promotedprofessor , head of the department of inorganic andphysical chemistry , as a succesor ofJacob Böeseken .From 1910 to 1911 he worked as research-fellow of the geophysical laboratory of the
Carnegie Institution for Science inWashington, DC .In 1915 he became a member of the the
Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences . In 1929 he received aGeorge Fisher Baker non-residential lectureship in chemistry atCornell University inIthaca (USA). He retired in 1943.Frans Maurits Jaeger died on
