page=C1] McDermott is a 20-year television news veteran, and before joining 9NEWS NOW, he was with WCBS-TV in New York where he co-anchored the 5am, 5pm and weekend evening news. He also served as an occasional host and anchor for the CBS Early Show and the CBS Morning News.McDermott received the 2002 Associated Press Broadcasters' Association First Place Award for General Excellence in Individual Reporting for his work following the 9/11 attacks. His 9/11 anchor coverage was carried nationally by CBS stations, and he also anchored the CBS Network's Saturday Early Show days after the attack.
Prior to New York, McDermott was with WMAR-TV, the ABC affiliate in Baltimore, where he was twice nominated for an National Capital/Chesapeake Bay Chapter Emmy in the Best Anchor category including a nomination for his coverage of President Clinton's impeachment hearings.
Prior to WMAR, McDermott worked at KSNW-TV, the NBC affiliate in Wichita, KS, where in 1997 he received the Edward R. Murrow Award for "A Common Thread," a thirty minute special on AIDS. Starting in 1994, McDermott and his then-wife
