and was built at the back of the school. The cost of the project was about $7.5 million.
In addition to the school's productions the facilities are also rented out for
dance recitals, shows,concerts , and other performances. Some notable productions that have taken place in the Performing Arts Center are:Doyle Lawson , TheDayton Contemporary Dance Company , World RenownedJon Petz , Udit & Aditya Naryan, and Indian Idol’sAditi Paul .Centerville Theatre Company
The Centerville Theatre Company puts on 4 main stage productions each year. Up until the 2008-2009 school year there were only 3 main stage productions. In 2008 a fall
musical was added. In addition to the main stage shows the students also put on 4 other productions throughout the year. In December there is a student produced play geared towards a younger audience. The in winter/spring there is a night of one acts and a show that the Advanced Acting and Directing class along with the Technical Theatre Tech Prep class creates. In May is the annual Extreme Theatre.Music
Band
The school's band program consists of the Centerville Jazz Band (
marching band ), the Winter Guard and Winter Percussion, three Jazz Ensembles (Jazz I, Jazz II, and Jazz III), the Basketball Pep Band (BBPB), Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, and the Concert Band. The Centerville Jazz Band has competed in several of the Bands of America regional and national competitions since 1990, winning the Grand National competition in 1992. The Winter Percussion Ensemble won the Scholastic World Gold Medal at the Winterguard International World Championships in 2004, finishing 2nd in 2005. In 2006, Centerville was the only high school to produce two finalist lines, the World Line (5th, Scholastic World) and the A-Line (10th, Scholastic A). The orchestra program at CHS consists of its Symphonic Orchestra and Concert Orchestra as well as the Chamber Orchestra (a small ensemble made up of several quartets), and an Alternative Strings program (which plays bluegrass, jazz, and electronic music). The prestigious Centerville High School Symphonic Orchestra ranks as one of the best nationwide. In 2002, the Symphonic Orchestra competed at the American String Teachers Association National Competition and placed fourth, and four years later, in 2006, tied for second in its division at the same competition. In addition, the Symphonic Orchestra has received the highest rating of Superior in all areas competing in Class A at the Ohio Music Education Association String Orchestra Adjudication for eight years consecutively, starting in 2001. The Centerville High School Concert Orchestra has received an overall Superior rating at the OMEA Adjudication the since they began competing in Class B in 2006.
Choir
Centerville High School also has three choirs, known as Concert choir, Elktonians and Forte. Forte was an after school activity until it was added into the school day in the 2007–2008 school year. The choirs have sung at a variety of venues including
Fifth-third Field , The Old North church in Boston, MA, and Cenergy Field.Extreme Theatre
Extreme Theatre is an
annual event put on by the Centerville Theatre Company. The students mustwrite , direct,design , act, and sing an original production. The annual event started in 2007 and was put on again in 2008. To prevent planning ahead a set ofrules dictate things that must be included in the show. These things may be characters, specificprops , certain words, and various other requirements (such as a musical number). The event starts at 7:30pm on a Friday night and the script orscript s are written overnight and production begins at 7:30am the next morning followed by the performance that Saturday night at 7:30pm. The show traditionally includesimprov at the beginning.2008-2009 Season
