Gus Williams (musician)

Gus Williams OAM is a country singer from Hermannsburg in Central Australia. He is an Arrernte man and was born in 1938 in Alice Springs. [ [http://mc2.vicnet.net.au/home/pmackett/herman2.html Hermannsburg (2) 1958 - 1959] ] He is the father of country star Warren H Williams.

In 1983 Williams was given a Medal of the Order of Australia for services to country music and Aboriginal people. [ [http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/orgs/car/finalreport/appendices04.htm Final report of the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation] Appendix 4 Members of the Council 1991-2000] In 2000 he was an inductee into the Country Music Hands Of Fame in Tamworth. He was given a Deadly in 2001 for Outstanding Contribution to Aboriginal Music. Gus Williams was in 2004 presented with a Country Music Centenary Medal from CMAA for for service to Australian society through Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music. In 2005 Williams was inducted into the hall of fame at Music NT’s Indigenous Music Awards.
