Realm Crafter, or RC is a 3D MMORPG game engine developed by Solstar Games. The game creation system includes a game editor, scripting language (basing on ideas from basic and c), terrain editor, character editor, and can be utilized to create character classes, equipment, NPCs, and more. The system uses the Blitz3D and BlitzPlus languages by Blitz Research. As with most authoring tools, the software does not require any coding knowledge, though the engine can be altered by users who know the programming language).

Basic Design

RealmCrafter includes a generic game editor allowing a user to add items (which Solstar calls "Gubbins"), edit the in game maps, and so on. It also includes the basic launcher, which shows a list of projects as well as the RC toolbox. The RC toolbox allow an inexperienced user to create complex environments, models, dungeons, and buildings. It also includes tools that allow you test servers, and game clients. Extra tools, such as the Mega Terrain Editor, are also considered tools, and appear under this tab once downloaded and installed. Extra tools include the Mega Terrain editor, Cave Editor, and Skincrafter.

Scripting Editor

Realm Crafter also comes with a scripter, which allows a user to define/edit/create events in the game. The scripts are written in C#, and comes with a Quest Wizard. The Quest Wizard scripts basic quests as well as actions like killing, retrieving items, speaking, or deliver quests. Scripts can be created in the Quest Wizard or in a text editor.

Graphics Engine

RealmCrafter Standard users a widely compatible DirectX7 based graphics engine.The upcomming RealmCrafter Professional will use a shader driven DirectX9, high-performance graphics engine, based around Pixel and Vertex Shader Model 2.

RealmCrafter has been used in a variety of projects. The project span a selection of genres, Fantasy, Post Apocalyptic, Space Opera, Cyber Punk, Racing, Historical and educational.

There are currently numerous teams involved in producing their own titles with RC. Most with hinsight to release the final product in RealmCrafter Pro.

To date many products are currently in Alpha and Beta stage. The only product published with RealmCrafter is an educational title: Dansken Online.
