Leela Kapoor was a fictional character on the long running ITV show "The Bill", played by Seema Bowri. Her call sign was 437, in radio communications. She has been in the series since December 2004, but was absent for three months when she went on holiday to Perth, Western Australia in January 2007.

Personal life and background

Leela is described as having no sense of humour and not being a team player, although she has gradually relaxed after becoming friends with PCs Honey Harman, Dan Casper and Emma Keane, the latter she is assigned to as a beat tutor when she first arrives at Sun Hill. She is also the current station Federation Representative, as she is the only person who wanted the position when it became available. Leela is professional and good natured most of the time, but sometimes she can be very strict.

Very little is known of Leela outside of the job and the character has rarely been the focus of storylines in "The Bill". Arguably, Leela's most memorable storyline is her arrival at Sun Hill and her confrontation with PC Sheelagh Murphy for infamously grassing on a Barton Street colleague.

Transfer from Sun Hill

Leela transferred from Sun Hill to work at the Foreign Office after Sergeant Callum Stone recommended her to a Foreign Office representative in order to protect himself after he heard about her transfer from Barton Street and the aforementioned whistle-blowing incident.
