Hans Alfred Nieper

Dr. Hans Alfred. Nieper (1928-1998) was a famous German physician, physicist and widely respected cancer specialist (oncologist) who was a pioneer in creating gene-repairing and gene extinguishing substances for cancer. Dr. Hans Nieper was the developer of the standard anti-cancer cytotoxic drug cyclophosphamide. One of his most important precepts was: "Cancer cannot be treated as a local disease. Cancer infests the entire body; therefore, the entire body must be strengthened." Therefore he treated disorders at the cellular level with non-toxic substances. He was co-founder of the German Oncological Society (cancer research). He was to have been honored for his life's work.

Dr. Nieper’s developments include the 'mineral carriers' Aspartates, Orotates, Arginates and 2-AEP; the 4 different substances used to transport minerals to the cellular level. He also invented the most absorbable vitamin formulations available.

Dr. Nieper became the discoverer of the only product officially declared in Germany as medication against multiple sclerosis.

Dr. Nieper developed natural products which were reviewed and approved by the German Government and had been contracted by NASA many times for special projects. Dr. Hans Alfred Nieper was consulted by prominent persons and his patients included many world stars, royalty and politicians, including Ronald Reagan, Princess Caroline of Monaco, Anthony Quinn, John Wayne, Nancy Sinatra, Red Buttons and Yul Brynner.

Dr. Nieper was outspoken against fluoridation, as witnessed in his book "Revolution in Medizin und Gesundheit." His last work was a German translation, with commentary, of Ralph Moss' "Questioning Chemotherapy."

Dr. Nieper was an acting consultant to Memorial Sloan Kettering in the 1970s where he met and worked with Ralph Moss, Ph.D. who was also there doing work on Laetrile (Ralph wrote the forward to Hans' book below). Dr.Neiper was from Hannover, Germany where he had his clinic the Paraclesus Klinik (now owned by another physician) after Hans death in 1999.

Hans was involved with the founder of the NCI, Dr.Burke, and also Dr.Sugiura doing the ground breaking work on the Laetrile discovery. Later on, Sloan-Kettering's leaders publically disavowed it and denied the positive results of their years of research on this subject ("The Cancer Industry" by Ralph Moss)

Hans went on to discover an entire group of compounds which seem to have even more beneficial effects on cancer than laetrile did...working with German chemist Dr.Franz Kohler Sr. (Kohler Chemicals) to make a molecule by which the L-glucose portion of Laetrile is replaced by urea. Together they produced what they called ureyl-, nicotynl-, and para-aminobenzoic mandelonitriles, which Hans used successfully in his German clinic and which many other clinics in Germany have used for many years in the treatment of cancer.

His contributions to healthcare have been astonishing. In cancer, he pioneered an entire class of gene-repair and gene-extinguishing substances. These include such things as squalene (from shark liver oil),carnivorous plant extracts such as carnivora (venus fly trap), didrovaltrate which is an herbal extract from the Himalayan valerian plant; Acetaldehyde; benzaldehyde; DHEA; iridodial from ants, oncostatins and tumosteron. His work with MS is legendary with the use of his mineral transport formulas to not only stop the progression but to reverse the damage.

Working at his clinic in Hannover, Germany, Nieper applied his unique discoveries to the treatment of diseases such as cancer, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis as well as other autoimmune conditions. Over the course of more than four decades Dr. Nieper treated thousands of patients with his innovative mineral transporters, many apparently with great success. However, in later years he published relatively little in medical journals, preferring instead to reserve his time for treating patients and for presenting occasional seminars about his work to medical professionals and consumers. As a result, his discoveries have been considered controversial by mainstream medicine or simply ignored, at least until recently.

Hans Nieper died in October, 1998 at the age of 70-ironically just at a time when many of his ideas had finally begun gaining wider acceptance. Only a few weeks before his death, in fact, the collected papers from a symposium on the medical uses of magnesium orotate were published in the journal Cardiovascular Drugs and Therapy. Background

Dr. Hans A. Nieper was born on May 23, 1928, in Hannover, Germany. Both parents were physicians. His great-grandfather was the founder of the mental hospitals in Ilten, near Hannover. His grandfather was a well-known surgeon in Goslar. He did his premedical studies at Johann Gutenberg University in Mainz, his medical studies at the University of Freiburg, and he received an M.D. degree from the University of Hamburg. Dr. Nieper studied in Mainz, Freiburg and Neuchâtel between 1946 and 1952. He completed his doctoral examinations "Summa Cum Laude," in Hamburg, with the explanation of the so-called Boeck's sarcoid as an autoimmune disease. At the time, such a disease principle was still considered a utopian fabrication-today it is a recognised reality. As an undergraduate, Nieper developed a fascination for theoretical physics — especially for the theories of gravitation, electromagnetism, and quantum mechanics.

In the following decades, Dr. Nieper worked in various German medical institutes and cancer research laboratories, instilling in him the certainty that the cancer therapy practised then, and now (cancer treatment with poisonous cytostatic substances) was predominantly on the wrong track. As an internist, he engaged in scientific investigation of important questions in the field of immunology, and together with a very well-known German chemist, he discovered and developed various new health curatives, which laid the foundation for his later world-wide fame.

Towards the end of 1960, Dr. Nieper went to Aschaffenburg, to the laboratory of the renowned cardiologist, Professor Kj. Blumberger, where he began introducing potassium and magnesium aspartates into heart therapy.

Because of his extensive study of non-poisonous methods for the long-term treatment of cancer, he became a star witness for powerful American civil rights organizations opposing toxic "orthodox" medicine and government therapy regulation. For this reason, Dr. Nieper's following in the English-speaking countries is counted in the millions, and his influence in all fields is quite pronounced. He has a close friendship with a large number of renowned scientists and artists, including the American cancer researcher Dr. Dean Burk, the best-known disciple of Berlin's double Novel-laureate Otto Warburg.

The routine introduction of selenium therapy for heart protection, the introduction of the so-called deshielding or deblocking therapy of cancer with pineapple enzymes and beta-carotene, and the modern "de-sodification" of cancerous tumours represent only one phase of his new clinical practical activities. Also the enzyme-based cleaning of coronary and leg arteries is quite remarkable. In the year 1971, Dr. Nieper, as a result of his own investigations, introduced beta-carotene routinely into the protective cancer therapy. At the time frequently ridiculed, this method is today fully accepted in the scientific world literature as one of the most effective methods available.

In 1970 Dr. Nieper co-authored a brief paper on Laetrile with Dean Burk, in which they stated that "...in the treatment of cancer, the active principle of nitrilosides is to be used mainly in prophylaxis [prevention] and early protective therapy.... On the other hand, the complete atoxicity [lack of toxicity] of this method of treatment, which is maybe nothing else but a rediscovered natural principle, permits the unlimited use of this substance". In 1972 Nieper told reporters while in the U.S.: "After more than 20 years of such specialized work, I have found the non-toxic Nitrilosides - that is, Laetrile - far superior to any other known cancer treatment or preventive. In my opinion it is the only existing possibility for the ultimate control of cancer".

It should thus be clear that among doctors who have worked with Laetrile, its anti-cancer effect is highly regarded. The combination of epidemiological evidence, animal studies and informed clinical opinion supports the belief that Laetrile has significant anti-cancer effect. This is perhaps why the anti-laetrile medical establishment has focused on scaring people away from Laetrile use through the "great cyanide scare."

Around 1980, Dr. Nieper came to the scientific conclusion that the potentially very effective defense against cancer by the body itself has to be explained in terms of "gene repair," and not as an immune defense alone. Soon after, anticancer gene repair substances were found in man as well as in other species, such as in plants and insects. This has proven to be a decisive turn in the fight against cancer.

As early as 1946, Dr. Nieper became critical of certain aspects of the predominant theories in physics. In 1953 he developed a so-called shielding theory of gravitational effects, and reintroduced the ether "abolished" by Einstein. In 1970, with the aid of American friends such as the McNaughton Foundation of San Francisco, the founder of AMPEX, A.M. Pontiatoff, and the Telluron Brain Center in Santa Monica, he further developed his ideas on gravity. Because of his results, in 1973, he was presented to the U.S. Senate. There was further progress in 1977, following a session at NASA-AMES at Moffett Field in California, among well-known scientists, including Dr. Arthur D. Alexander. There Dr. Nieper conceived of the so-called perisolar cushion theory of the Tachyon-Field. Dr. Nieper is the Honorary President of the German Association of Vacuum Field Energy and Physics, after founding and presiding the Association for 17 years. He also later co-founded the American Association of Gravity Field Energy. These are the first associations in the World dedicated to space energy technology.

In Germany, was the founder and was the first 5-year President of the German Society of Oncology. This biologically oriented cancer society grows tremendously and is now the biggest cancer society in all of Europe. He is also a life member of the German Society of Natural Scientists and Physicians.

In the USA, Dr. Nieper was an active member of the New York Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences, the American College of Nutrition and other societies. He was Honorary President of the International Academy of Preventive Medicine for two years and is also Honorary Director of this academy, along with double Nobel-laureate Linus Pauling and vitamin chemist Roger Williams. He is furthermore, an honorary member of the Center of Frontier Sciences, Temple University, Philadelphia.

In Canada, he was a member of the Planetary Association for Clean Energy and was also a member of the Société Agressologie in France, directed by his friend, Henri Laborit.

Dr. Nieper died in his sleep on 21 October 1998. Many felt this to be a great loss to the global health community, but he left behind a wealth of information that will be beneficial for generations to come.

Overall, Dr. Nieper has published approximately 360 articles and essays and holds 131 International Patents. He has written several books which can be found in select libraries.

Dr. Nieper's Research

Nieper’s true accomplishments were the outcome of his clinical experiments. Nieper is remembered chiefly for his work with mineral supplements as treatments for cancer, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, and cardiovascular problems. With the help of various colleagues, Nieper developed a series of “mineral transporters” — substances that he believed would increase the bioavailability of minerals in tissues and cells. The principal transporters he used were AEP (2-aminoethylphosphonic acid), aspartic acid, arginine, and orotic acid. Each of these transporters can be combined with certain minerals to form organic salts — such as magnesium AEP, magnesium aspartate, magnesium arginate, or magnesium orotate. Of these, Nieper favored the orotates for most applications.

Dr. Hans Nieper's explanations of the mechanisms behind his stunning success in the clinical application of sophisticated mineral transporters rely heavily on the concept of the fixed pore mechanism of active transport. The theory called "fixed pore mechanism" suggests that a carrier molecule, in this case Orotic Acid (B-13), is attached to the compound being transported. This research has lead to the creation of mineral chelates called orotic acid chelates, or orotates which offers a 20 fold increase in utilizing minerals.

Nieper had fairly definite opinions on how the orotates and other artificial transporters are able to deliver minerals to cells. He stated that when an AEP transporter reaches the outer membrane of a cell, the organic part of the transporter becomes trapped in the membrane, and the mineral ion that it carries is released when the transporter eventually gets metabolized. The aspartic acid transporter, Nieper said, gets past the outer cell membrane but becomes trapped in the inner cell membrane (which is located just inside the outer membrane), and releases its mineral ion when the aspartic acid molecule gets metabolized. The orotates, however, according to Nieper, pass through both cell membranes into the interior of the cell, and only get metabolized once they reach the membranes of structures within the cell, thus leaving the mineral ion in or near these structures.

Magnesium Orotate has been shown to have significant benefits for patients with coronary heart disease and in competitive endurance athletes. Lithium Orotate showed benefit in treating alcoholism. Some Russian studies of Potassium Orotate found benefits in wound healing and in treating mood disorders. Zinc Orotate showed protective affects against alcohol damage to the liver and against radiation damage to the blood.

Calcium Orotate is one of the orotic acids formulated by Dr. Hans Nieper. This “substance which interests us enormously is orotic acid which forms a high complex salt with any mineral and which has no metabolic affinity to the outer cell membrane but penetrates . . . and is only metabolized at the site of the membranes of the mitochondria and of the structures found in the cell plasma. Only here the mineral will be released to the form of an ion.”

“The orotic molecule is taken up by mesenchymal tissue and by bradytrophic tissue, especially the cartilage tissue and also by the vessel walls, by the blood-brain barrier and by the matrix of the bone.”

Calcium Orotate was used by Dr. Hans Nieper to treat injury to bones such as fractures and various bone diseases along with bone loss as he states that “all formation of bone, more or less, is controlled by cell membrane and that the microgranules of apatite have to be formed inside the osteoblast and then released through the cell membrane again.” Clinical applications of this form of calcium proved spectacular. Dr. Nieper reports the successful treatment of bone fractures, oesteochondrosis, cortisone side effects (prednisone), and rheumatoid arthritis.

As an aside he mentions that women taking contraceptive pills develop cartilage damage and that the application of Calcium Orotate enables these women to continue taking these contraceptives without risk.

Dr. Nieper also used Calcium Orotate to treat pain due to inflammation or osteoporosis, high blood pressure, angina pectoris, multiple sclerosis, encephalitis, retinitis, hepatitis, arthritis, arteriosclerosis, phlebitis and colitis. He notes that the “origin of pain in spinal syndrome has to do with cartilage behavior and less so with osteoporosis.”

In addition, it is very effective against psoriasis, a scaling skin disorder. The long-term clinical tolerance and overall value of calcium orotate is far superior to other therapeutic calcium substances and to immune depressors.

In speaking of the effectiveness of Calcium Orotate on recalcification of bone metastases on cartilage tissue and also on osteoporosis Dr. Nieper stated: “Without any doubt, clinically, it is obvious that there is no calcium compound known which affects cartilage tissue and which prevents damage on pentose pathway tissue such as cartilage. I feel this is quite a bit of progress in preserving our health and especially in preventing aging of tissue.”

In concluding one of his articles Dr. Nieper wrote: “This is calcium orotate, its effect on recalcification of bone metastases on cartilage tissue and also on osteoporosis. Without any doubt, clinically, it is obvious that there is no calcium compound known which affects cartilage tissue and which prevents damage on pentose pathway tissue such as cartilage. I feel this is quite a bit of progress in preserving our health and especially in preventing aging of tissue.”

Aspartates / Orotates / and Arginates Hans developed an active mineral transport system to restore magnesium to heart and circulatory cells by way of utilizing 2 very excellent organic carrier molecules - phenylalanine and paraminobenzoic acid. Hans also developed potassium-magnesium aspartate as an active mineral transport system. He also recognized Dr. Erwin Chargoff's discovery of aminoethlphosphate (AEP) as an essential component in the structure of all cell membranes. Hans then developed Calcium 2-aminoethylphosphate, which he calls The most important mineral transporter available today.

Coupled with Magnesium 2-AEP and Potassium 2 AEP, to form a three-part complex, he found to be Highly effective in combating the diabetic progression. Dr. Robert Atkins, in New York, has demonstrated that calcium 2-AEP, specifically, significantly reverses juvenile diabetes type I. Hans Nieper has made similar observations.

The 2-AEP Complex: Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium 2-AEP ((Ca,Mg, K 2-AEP) Dr. Nieper claims extremely effective in preserving the retina by restoring reinal cell membrane integrity by using the 2-AEP Complex.

Hans attributes Calcium aspartate, above all other mineral aspartates, was effective in the recalcification of bone tissue in the aftermath of bone tuberculosis, osteoporosis and osteomyelitis. He also preferred using Potassium-Magnesium Aspartate to activate specific enzymes, which, in turn, produce energy - rich adenosinetriphosphate (ATP), essential in providing increased energy and oxygen to the blood. Zinc Aspartate is a mineral substance for the enhancement of the immune defense system. It activates the thymus gland and the formation of T-lymphocytes. Hans also used Calcium Orotate, Lithium Orotate, Magnesium Orotate ~ which incidentally reduces serum cholesterol levels more efficiently than any other substance previously used. He used dose levels of 200 to 600 mg.s per day to achieve these results. In combination with Zinc aspartate, Magnesium Orotate helps to stop the replication of viruses.

Hans lists Potassium Orotate as helpinf to prevent spontaneous heart-tissue destruction. Hans used Calcium Arginate to help with type II diabetes, Magneium Arginate, in lowering blood glucose levels, Zinc Arginates also in the treatment of diabetic blood glucose levels.

Hans also discusses Laetrile (Amygdalin) quite a bit. He says the Hunza draw these substances from apricot stones, whie the Eskimos consume them in certain arctic berries. It was found that the rhodanase - an enzyme present in high concentrations around cancer cells - splits the nitrilosides into their components: hydrocyanic acid (HCN); benzaldehyde; and a sugar. The HCN and benzaldehyde have anticancer qualities.

Drs. Cassetti of Italy, discovered that the l-glucose mandelonitril (that is, Laetrile) is metabolized only by cancer cells, and not by normal cells, thus explaining it's unique anticancer properties. Hans and Dr. Franz Kohler, designed a mandelonitrile molecule in which the l-glucose portion of the structure was replaced by urea. He successfully synthesized a series of mandelonitriles of varying chemical compositions based on the original l-glucose (Laetrile) structure, in the hope of producing more highly effective, nontoxic anticancer agents.

From this series, Hans eventually settled on a mixture of ureyl- and nicotinyl-mandelonitriles in place of Laetrile in his practice. He felt that Ureyl-mandeelonitrile was his most effective agent in treating prostate and pancreatic cancers, Hodgkin's disease, and chronic leukemias.

The Detergent Suspect in fatal heart attacks Han's sites Wildenthal's study, in a German 1978 journal, that the frequency of fatalheart attacks did not increase until modern lifestyles, including the use of manufactured cleaning products, were adopted. It follows that the rise in frequency of fatal heart attacks occurred primarily in cities where these manufactured detergent substances were available, rather than in the rural areas. This situation was also found to be true in Japan. But the most convincing evidence is found in Dr. Wildenthals' report concerning the oil-rich Arabsi in Kuwait who have built new houses equipped with the latest kitchen equipment and dishwashers. As they all eat the same basic food and follow the same dietary laws, the Detergents are again suspected to be the key factor. Apparently, these detergents, cause a significant rise in Neutral fats, closely associated with high heart attack risks.

The heart muscle can and must obtain up to 48% of its energy through the combustion of fat. The process of fatty-acid combustion in the heart muscle is easily impaired by several environmental poisons, certain medications, and several immune-blocking processes. Arginates help our bodies combust neutral fats more efficiently. Carnitine improves the combustion of fatty acids and thus releases more energy to the heart muscles.

ATP (Adenosinetriphosphate) provides much needed energy and oxygen to the blood. Selenium, especially when combined with glutathione,or it's precursor, acetyl-cysteine, can sometimes negate the need for a pacemaker. This combination, Dr. Nieper says, inactivates free radicals in the body; removes heavy metals such as lead; and serves as a potent antiviral and anticancer agent; and prevents heart damage.

Dr. Hans Nieper used serrapeptase to treat arterial blockage in his coronary patients, reporting that serrapeptase also dissolves blood clots, and causes varicose veins to shrink or diminish. Dr.Nieper told of a woman scheduled for hand amputation and a man scheduled for bypass surgery; both recovered quickly without surgery after treatment with serrapeptase. In addition, widespread use has included fibrocystic breast disease and carpal tunnel syndrome. The enzyme is also used to facilitate the therapeutic effect of antibiotics in the treatment of infection. In urology serrapeptase has been successfully employed to treat cystitis and epididymitis.

Lithium has proven very useful in the treatment of diseases. Due to its physical characteristics, it displaces sodium in the cellular system. Apparently, its desirable therapeutic effects are related to this fact.

As a rule, orthodox medicine prescribes lithium in the form of its usual salts, such as lithium carbonate. It then becomes necessary to ingest fairly large quantities to achieve the desired effects. These are: improvement in manic and depressive states, improvement in the tendency towards alcoholism, a braking effect on thyroid overproduction and occasionally an improvement inthe production of white blood cells, for instance, in the defense against cancerous diseases. Unfortunately, the side effects are not insignificant. These include disturbance of the water balance, fine muscular tremors (fibrillation) and the requirement for fairly frequent lithium blood level controls. As a rule, it may attain 0.6 mval. A trick can be used to overcome these side effects-instead of the usual salts, supply the lithium salt of orotic acid (lithium orotate) which preferentially moves to those cell systems we want to affect, for example, the cells of the connective structure of the brain (the glia cells), the cells of the heart's pacemakerand the heart's stimulus conduction system, and the bone marrow cells.

It is thus possible to improve the specific effect of lithium nearly 20 fold. Clinically, 5 mg lithium out of the orotate are approximately as effective as 100 mg lithium out of the carbonate. Examinations of blood serum are no longer necessary because there is no longer any important increase in the serum's lithium content, nor can one be attained. Muscular fibrillation is also prevented, as are disorderly effects on the thyroid. The formation of goiter is avoided, as are undesirable distrubances in the water balance. According to Dr. Kline's studies, in New York, 37% of alcoholics are favorably influenced by lithium carbonate; the figure for lithium orotate would presumably be closer to 70%. In addition, neither the alcoholic nor the emotionally disturbed likes to have to constantly run to the laboratory for lithium controls, as the therapy with the orthodox lithium carbonaterequires.

Alternative Cancer Supplements

Some of these substances were Squalene, which is shark liver oil; carnivorous plant extracts, such as Dionaea Muscipla (Venus Fly Trap Extract); didrovaltrate, an herbal extract from the Himalayan valerian plant; acetaldehyde; benzaldehyde; DHEA; the oncostatins; and tumosteron.

Iridodial is extremely similar to the activated dialdehyde called didrovalte from the Himalayan Valerian Plant. These genes repairing iridodials make inactive the undesired information from an infecting virus to the cellular genome. Such "undesired" information may often otherwise result in the conversion of a normal cell to cancerous. Gene repair therapy represents in many ways an imitation of the cancer defense of the body"--Hans Nieper,M.D...Hans mentions that Iridodials are a primal source of natural chemical substances called dialdehydes. These are said to be extremely powerful genetic-repair factors. Their anti-malignant , genetic repair properties were first described by Dr. Peter Thies of Hanover,Germany in 1985, and the first pulmonary tumor regression from irododial use was first observed by Dr.Didier of Gifhorn, Germany. As Nieper explains in his book, iridomyrmex ants (much like sharks) rarely develop tumors. They are able to have unbelievable amounts of viruses without showing any effects.

Yet these little insects have no immune system. Also, their big ant colonies are found generally in areas of intense " vacuum field" energy turbulence -- what Dr. Nieper calls Geopathogenic zones or Geopathic zones"(areas of intensely strong geomagnetic radiation), they apparently require especially strong genetic-repair systems. The iridodials are activated by the amount of geomagnetic and vacuum field energy stimulation that the ants receive. Thus, in his terms, these ants must have very strong genetic-repair systems in order to survive. The iridodials are extracts obtained in extremely small yields from iridomyrmex ants. Insects, and particularly ants, have the capacity to produce large amounts of gene-repair substances efficiently. The result is that such insects rarely develop tumors and are able to host unbelievable amounts of viruses without showing any ill effects. Yet they have no immune systems! Dr. Hans Neiper states: "In my clinical experience, I have observed that the iridodials out distance most other therapeutic substances known in the treatment of cancer. These substances can be administered orally.

Not only are the iridodials more effective and much less expensive than other anticancer agents, but they are non-toxic and can be used without complication for an unlimited time. Hans states “ Never, in forty years of treating cancer, have I experienced more positive results than I have with the iridodials." Dr. Nieper's clinical experience with this ant factor for 15 or so patients with advanced forms of malignancies proved to be very positive, as long as the ant factor was available. According to Dr. Nieper this ant factor seems to very, very slowly suffocate the malignancy. It takes eight months or even up to two years to keep the malignancy regressing, and in his opinion this is due to the very slow annihilation of the viral information in the tumor cell.

Treating Ronald Reagan

When President Ronald Reagan got cancer during his presidency, the German doctor Hans Nieper, M.D, treated him. Imagine if the American public knew a sitting president preferred German cancer treatments. It would have been front page news if it hadn’t been hushed up at the time. Reagan’s German doctor acknowledged it in an interview. In July of 1985, Dr. Nieper flew to America to attend to Reagan in his hospital recovery room. President Reagan’s private medical records before, during, and after his presidency are unavailable according to the Reagan Library. Many American cancer patients lose their hair and their vitality. But Reagan kept his famous pompadour hairstyle. He also kept his warm smile and vigorous stride. Reagan lived for another 19 years. He died at age 93, and not from cancer.

Dr. Nieper cured Princess Caroline of breast cancer, and she remains in glowing health to this day. Other celebrities, such as actors William Holden and Anthony Quinn, have gone to Dr. Nieper’s clinic for cancer. And comedian Red Buttons brought his wife there.

Attempts to discredit Dr. Nieper

The U.S. government and other medical groups such as the AMA and the National Cancer Institute, conducted vigorous campaigns to discredit his ideas and to discourage patients from going to Germany to be treated at his clinic. On orders from the FDA and other governmental bodies, physicians who prescribed the treatments advocated by Nieper were arrested and fined, and had their medical licenses canceled. U.S. manufacturers and retailers of similar supplements were raided by Federal agents, their assets were confiscated and the owners of the companies arrested. The U.S. Customs Service routinely seized the prescribed medications and supplements brought back from Germany by Nieper’s patients for their own use. In Nieper’s own words:

Police-state actions like these eventually prompted Congress to strip the FDA of its authority to regulate nutritional supplements. The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 was enacted, and Nieper himself had a significant influence upon its content. Nevertheless, FDA harassment of Nieper and his patients did not end — the agency continued to update its “import alerts” directed against all substances associated with Nieper’s clinic, the most recent update occurring on November 29, 2000. 5 It is amusing to find Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) listed in this import alert as one of the “Unapproved New Drugs Promoted By Dr. Hans Nieper”.

In 1985 the National Cancer Institute, part of the American cancer establishment, had published a pamphlet purporting to warn the public about how to recognize a cancer “quack.” One of the red flags for identifying a “quack” was: “Beware of any doctor who links cancer to diet.” President Reagan had to change his diet after his treatment in Germany for cancer. Dr. Nieper told him it was necessary. America’s cancer establishment later withdrew the claim that cancer has nothing to do with diet.

Recently, Codex Alimentarius is using its power to promote worldwide restrictions on vitamins and food supplements, severely limiting their availability and dosages. While the stated goal of Codex is to establish unilateral regulations for dietary supplements in every country, many view that the actual goal is to outlaw health products and information on vitamins and dietary supplements, except those under their direct control. These regulations would supersede United States domestic laws without the American people's voice or vote in the matter.
