The Drownout is an American indie rock band from Atlanta, Georgia that was founded in 2005 by guitarist/vocalist Jason Jones. A part of the newest wave of New Wave-inspired bands, the group distinguishes itself within that genre by combining an unapologetic musicality with a high-energy performance that one would typically only expect from a hardcore punk band. Their musical style has drawn critical comparisons to Interpol, Muse and The Killers. Although their early work on the self-released debut full-length "In Flagrante Delicto" is more hard rock-flavored, the 2008 release of The Drownout's follow-up EP, "Paper Trails and Binds", exhibits a gradual metamorphosis toward dancier tracks such as the album's first single, High Waters. Early reviews of Paper Trails and Binds have been overly positive with critics hailing the album as "one of [2008's] most infectious rock-dance albums." The Drownout's live performance has been characterized as both "high-energy" [http://www.myspace.com/thedrownout] and "dynamic." The band currently consists of Jones, drummer Matt Lynch, synth player Matt Baum and bassist Justin Marchan.
