Rebel Krown is a group of DJs / turntablists from Brooklyn, New York.

History

Formed as a DJ crew in the mid nineties and originally including 3 members, under the name Flatbush International, which was chosen because of the part of Brooklyn they are from.

Rebel Krown was formed by ACP Da Exec, Syxx Figgaz, and Little Kev. Initally the group began doing free parties for their East Flatbush neighborhood out of the basement of their house. Word of the free parties began to spread throughout Brooklyn and more people began coming to the parties entitled "DUBfest". The group would eventually move the parties to the backyard, and then into the street, similar to Passa Passa.

Experienceing modest success, the group began to grow and added members Prezzy, and Genius to the crew. Original member Little Kev had to leave the crew due to family cirumstances.

The crew decided to begin releasing CD's using the funds they earned from parties. Syxx Figgaz began the "Dancehall Meltdown", and "Dancehall Rewind" series. Genius had "Culture Mix", and Big Kev HD released "House Party Vol.1". All albums were released, and initally sold out of the trunk of crew members cars, and word of mouth.

In 2000, the group decided they needed to add a Hype Man to push their parties over the top. This was necessary as they began to throw parties for bigger venues, and began to get noticed by major promoters. To accomplish this task they added local radio personality, Big Kev HD. Big Kev HD was well known for his over the top style of comedy, and energetic voice, as well as his style of djaying. Big Kev HD is also well known for engaging the audience in the party.

As of 2008, the group as seen continued success, even branching off into the West Coast thanks to the efforts of Prezzy and Genius. The group has continued to grow thanks in part to their willingness to experiment with all types of music; including: Disco, Kompa, and Trance.
