The North/South Language Body (in Irish, "An Foras Teanga"; in Ullans, "Tha Boord o Leid") is an implementation body, provided for by the Belfast Agreement, that exists to implement policies agreed by Ministers in the North/South Ministerial Council (NSMC) in Ireland with regard to the Irish and Ulster-Scots languages.
It is a single body reporting to the NSMC, but composed of two separate and largely autonomous agencies: Foras na Gaeilge, the Irish language agency, and Tha Boord o Ulstèr-Scotch, the Ulster-Scots agency.
Following the suspension of the Northern Ireland Assembly in October of 2002, the Language Body, as with the other North/South implementation bodies under the NSMC, has temporarily been barred from taking on any new functions, and the British and Irish governments have assumed responsibility for the Body. It is in a state of "care and maintenance" pending the restoration of devolved government to Northern Ireland.
