Born in
Glasgow in 1953, Sharp emigrated with his family to New Zealand in 1961, where they settled inAuckland . He studied at theUniversity of Victoria and received a doctorate in English at theUniversity of Auckland in in 1982. ["Anthology of New Zealand Poetry in English", Oxford University Press, 1997] Sharp is also a columnist, reviewer and critic, editing the book page of theSunday Star-Times .
