"The Book of Mordred" (2005) is a young adult novel by Vivian Vande Velde. Despite the legend, Mordred is not a villain in this book. The book is divided into three parts, each focusing on one of three women whose lives have been affected by Mordred.

Plot introduction

It follows the lives of Alayna, the widow of the wizard Tolland, her magically gifted daughter, Kiera, and the sorceress Nimue, as they encounter Mordred and become involved in his adventures. Though they are each significantly affected by Mordred, who comes to see them as important people to him in turn, the story focuses most strongly on Kiera, who has known Mordred since Alayna asked him to rescue her daughter after she had been kidnapped by a wizard intending to use Kiera's latent powers.
