Telenorte was an Chilean Television Channel which launched in 1966 and closed in 2001.The channel had station in Arica,Iquique,Antofagasta and La Serena.

History

Telenorte appeared in 1982,after privatization the Television Network of Universidad Católica del Norte in a single channel.

After creating that network appears the era of transmissions deferred with Canal 13 in Santiago de Chile via microwave broadcasting programs live,like "Sábado Gigante",that once took only deferred.

The last major transmission with Canal 13 was in 1988.After that Telenorte signed with Chilevisión in 1990.Later,with Red Televisión and Megavisión.Finally,Telenorte signed with UCV TV in 1994 until 2001.

In 1995,Universidad Católica del Norte ceased to be the Telenorte owner and Compañía Radio Chilena S.A became the channel's owner.

But,the network entered to bankruptcy,closing the studios in Iquique,in 1996,La Serena,1997,Antofagasta,1998,except for Arica station,which closed in 2001,ending the network.

Legacy

Telenorte was the biggest regional TV Network in Chile.The channel was an alternative for families without Cable television because offered programs and local news.When the Arica studio closed (in 2001),the employees recovered files of channel before the building located at Avenida Diego Portales was plunged into neglect.These files are now in Youtube.
