- Maurice Elenbaas
Maurice Daniel Elenbaas (born May 21, 1977) is a successful semi-professional Dutch Touring Car racing driver. In 1997 in a Fiat Ritmo 105TC 1500cc he made his racing debut in the -2000cc regional dirt track series. With a hugely underpowered car he was able to challenge the competition but was unable to qualify for the final races by finishing in the top 3 in the heats. After his racing debut and strong performance in his rookie year, he made his road racing debut testing a new single seater car (Formula Arcobaleno / Formula Gloria) on the Zandvoort circuit in November 1997, with one of the drivers being the very young Nicky Pastorelli (later going up in the ranks to drive Formula 3000 and Champcar) and being instructed by his father. This debut was followed by competing in the very competitive Dutch National RacingTeam (DNRT) touring car racing series in 1999 and forward. After successful participating in the series he has challenged, Maurice Elenbaas has suspended his active racing career in 2003 to pursue a business career and finishing law school.
For 2009, Maurice Elenbaas has signed a deal with Team Aerone Racing in association with Tazman Autosport to become the first driver in the 2009 DNRT Supersport series. Maurice Elenbaas was already the first driver for Team Aerone Racing in the Dutch Supercar Challenge, DNRT touring, DNRT sports and DNRT Volvo series in the seasons 1999 through 2003. In 2009, Maurice Elenbaas will drive the teams very unique Ford Sierra XR8 racecar in the DNRT Supersport series. The team and driver will use this season to further develop the car for participation in the 2010 GT class of the Dutch Supercar Challenge (the Dutch based European GT series).
The Ford Sierra XR8 racecar is professionally built from scratch and the huge V8 engine will produce an immense amount of power and torque. Although the season will be used to develop the car for 2010, it is also the goal to obtain the 2009 DNRT Supersport championship. In this series, Maurice and the team will have to face serious competition from fast drivers in Porsche 911 GT3’s, Saker sportscars and other GT and fast touring cars.
