Woodville General Films

Woodville General Films, or WGF as it is sometimes referred, is a production company based in Los Angeles, California and managed by partners Chris Rice, Mark Riley, David Clayton Rogers, and Tony West.

History

Woodville General Films was originally founded by Tony West, Mark Riley, and Chris Rice in March 2006 on a sunny Saturday afternoon over drinks at "The Standard Hotel" on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood California. After a few drinks Chris Rice and Mark Riley finally convinced Tony West that starting their own production company wasn't such a crazy idea. Tony finally agreed and with their own money and by their own rules, Woodville General Films became a reality.

The trio knew what kind of films they wanted to produce, but needed a company name that embodied both the kind of stories that they wanted to tell and also reminded themselves of where they came from. The name "Woodville General Films" found its inspiration in Mark Riley's tiny hometown of Woodville, Florida. It was here where Mark's family originally ran "The Woodville General Store" and later, a chain of small video stores called "WGS Video". It was small video rental houses like these where the partners fell in love with the magic of movies and movie-making, so it made perfect sense to the partners that this company be named after the old video rental stores. After all it was the inspiration of these old video rentals that led the partners to develop and produce the types of films that would inspire a whole new generation.

Dartsville

Woodville General Films needed a showpiece that accurately represented their collective talents as well as providing a calling card for their new company. After numerous meetings about a possible first project Mark Riley came up with the idea of throwing together mustaches, beer drinking, the south, and a sport that takes absolutely no athletic ability, throwing darts. So the company's first production became a short comedy called "Dartsville". After Mark's initial idea he began meeting with writer Ben McMillan to flesh out the story.
