1934 European Championships in Athletics
- 1934 European Championships in Athletics
The 1st European Championships in Athletics were staged at the Stadio Comunale in Turin, Italy from September 7 to September 9, 1934 including only men's events. Women's championships were held separately in 1938, but men's and women's events were combined at one venue from 1946.
The discussion on the European Championships started before 1930, when a Hungarian member of the IAAF, dr. Stankovic, submitted his idea to the International Federation. During the Congress of IAAF in Berlin, on September 24, 1933 the Federation approved his proposals and Italy hosted the first championships.
