Sam Wood started playing football for Long Lane before joining Cray youth. He progressed through the ranks at the club before joining the reserve team in 2002 and eventually making his first team debut in 2003.
Cray Wanderers FC (2002-2005)
Wood began his career at Cray Wanderers in 2002, after being a youth player at the club. He spent 2 season in the reserves before making his senior debut in 2003. During his time at Cray, he became a fans' favourite, notably scoring the first goal against
AFC Wimbledon when Cray ended the Wombles' 72 game unbeaten run, winning 2-0. He signed for groundshare Bromley in 2005. He finished his time at Cray with 8 goals from 94 games.Bromley FC (2005-2008)
At Bromley, Wood won the Supporters' Player of the Year award in 2006 and the Club Player of the Year in 2007. His performances attracted interest from professional clubs, and this eventually materialised with a move to Brentford in May 2008. At Bromley, he scored 21 goals in 159 appearances.
Brentford FC (2008- present)

He made his league debut against Bury, but picked up an injury in their 1-0 loss and has not appeared for the club since.
