Emily Murray Paterson, R.S.W., S.W.A (1855 - 1934) was a

Emily Paterson was born in
Edinburgh , Scotland in 1855 - her father was asolicitor . [Dunford, P. "A Biographical Dictionary of Women Artists in Europe and America Since 1850" (Published by Harvester Wheatsheaf, 1990> ] She studied at theEdinburgh College of Art as well as in Paris and lived at Albyn Place, Edinburgh before moving toLondon in 1917. [Catalogue of the Exhibition of Scottish Art: 1939 (Published by Royal Academy of Arts, 1939)] She travelled widely between 1909 - 1934 visiting theNetherlands andItaly on a number of occasions. Her favoured subjects werelandscapes ,architecture andbotany . She was elected member of theRoyal Scottish Watercolour Society , Scottish Artists' Society and theSociety of Women Artists .Emily died in London on the 23rd July, 1934 - a memorial exhibition was held at Walker's Gallery, London later the same year.
