WRSP-TV (channel 55) and WCCU (channel 27) are affiliates of the Fox network in central Illinois. WRSP, the main station, is licensed to Springfield and serves the western part of the market. WCCU is a fulltime satellite of WRSP for the eastern part of the market, licensed to Urbana with studios in Champaign. Both stations are owned by GOCOM Media of Illinois along with The CW affiliate WBUI.

History

On June 1, 1979, channel 55 signed on as religious television station WBHW, the first new commercial station in the market (not counting satellite stations) since WCIA signed on in 1953. In 1982, it changed call letters to WRSP-TV, the market's first general entertainment independent station. On April 25, 1987, as a condition of affiliating with the fledgling Fox network, satellite station WCCU signed on. Both stations began transmitting digital signals in mid-2000, including Fox Network high definition.

WRSP-TV introduced a new website, based on the "MyFox" O&O look which has been licensed from Fox Television Stations Group's interactive division.
