.Best known for her co-starring role as Catherine "Cissy" Patterson-Davis in the prime time television hit, "Family Affair", Kathy Garver has enjoyed a lifetime “affair” in the entertainment industry. She has garnered critical acclaim in movies, stage and voice-over animation. She is a popular voice instructor and guest at autograph shows and memorabilia conventions
Before age 10, Kathy earned roles in the films I’ll Cry Tomorrow. The Night of the Hunter, The Bad Seed, Monkey on My Back and the television show This is Alice. She credits Cecil B. DeMille with providing her big break. Cast as Rachel, a slave child in his epic The Ten Commandments, the legendary Hollywood director saw her lively dancing during a break and had a special dance scene written in the film just for her.
After graduating from Pacific High School, Kathy attended UCLA where she graduated with a degree in Speech. During her freshman year at UCLA, she won the role of Cissy on a new CBS series starring Brian Keith and Sebastian Cabot called Family Affair. The show ran for five years and is still popular throughout the worldShooting the series demanded a lot from the entire cast. "Brian Keith only worked for half the filming schedule, so the rest of us would film scenes from six different episodes in one day." she recalls. "I actually had to do most of my scenes opposite the assistant director, a paunchy middle-aged man glued to a cigar. I had to use a lot of imagination to see him as my six year old sister, Buffy!" After "Family Affair", Kathy flew to Tel Aviv to star in an Israeli musical stage version of the TV series, having to learn Hebrew phonetically for her role. Later, she continued her dramatic studies at London's prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, where she portrayed Juliet in "Romeo and Juliet." Dramatic productions in the states followed including starring roles in "My Fair Lady", "Sunday in New York", and "Midsummer's Night Dream", and "The Trojan Women." She has also studied under noted teachers Jeff Corey, Uta Hagen, George Griffin and William Lockwood.Kathy also has been featured in countless T.V. guest appearances including episodes of Panic, Fury, Our Miss Brooks, Jim Bowie, Daniel Boone, The Millionaire, "Mr. Novak, The Patty Duke Show, Ben Casey, Big Valley, Death Valley Days, Parenthood and Matlock. Film roles include Apollo 13, Cop and a Half, Invisible Mom, Princess Diaries, F.B.I. Murders and Stay The Night.Kathy and her husband David Travis met on a tennis court- truly a love match. They have a teenage son Reid Garver Travis. The Travis’ recently moved back into their home which was severely damaged by fire nearly 2 years ago. It was a devastating loss as much memorabilia was destroyed. One that was saved was a family heirloom piano which was able to be restored.Today, Kathy is very much in demand for her numerous vocal characterizations- she's a stand out in the very competitive field of "voice overs" for cartoons, commercials toys, and even books on tape., She has provided voices for Chuck Norris' Karate Commandos and Spiderman and his Amazing Friends." She has produced, narrated and written lyrics for original music, for either audio tapes of Beatrix Potter Tales and eight Mother Goose based audio tapes for Smarty Pants, Inc. Her Beatrix Potter tapes have sold over a million copies. Most recently she narrated an audio book of Jayne Ann KrentzKathy also is a popular instructor for voice classes, audio books, voice overs and voice production. She has also helped design, produce, and manufacture pre-school electronic toys for the world wide market. "Richard Scarry's Busy Town Talker", and the talking "Huckle" are among her successes. Kathy frequently appears as a special guest at autograph and collectors shows. In 2005, she has appeared at the The Silicon Convention, Christian Media Convention, Tombstone Western Film Festival and Symposium, National Sports and Collectibles Convention, Hopalong Cassidy Events & Collector Shows, Motor City Comic Convention, Williamsburg Film Festival Hollywood Collectors &Celebrities Show.
