Joan O'Hara (b.
October 11 1930 inCounty Sligo ["The Irish Times " obituary] Fact|date=September 2007 - d.July 23 2007 inDublin ) was an Irish stage,film andtelevision actress. She performed in many plays in theAbbey Theatre in Dublin, including those bySeán O'Casey , Lady Gregory and W.B. Yeats. She appeared as Maurya in the 1988 film "The Dawning ".More recently, O'Hara was best-known for appearing in the popular Irish television
soap opera "Fair City ", broadcast onRTÉ One . She joined the soap in 1994, portraying the character Eunice Phelan until her own (O'Hara's) death in 2007.Personal life
O'Hara was born and raised in
County Sligo , the daughter of an officer in the British Corps of Royal Engineers. Fact|date=September 2007 She attended the same Ursuline convent school as fellow actress (and friend), the latePauline Flanagan . O'Hara went on to live most of her life in Dublin with her husband and three children, one of whom is theplaywright Sebastian Barry , who wrote "The Steward of Christendom ". One of O'Hara's sisters, Mary O'Hara, is asoprano andharp ist. She died in Dublin on 23 July 2007 of complications fromheart disease , aged 76. Her death was announced on the following day.
