The airline was established in August 1995 and started operations in March 1996. It has 530 employees (at March 2007).

Incidents

On 31 May 2006, Air Memphis' DC-9 experienced some form of engine failure shortly after takeoff from Baghdad International Airport around 8 PM local time. After apparently dumping fuel, the DC-9 returned to the airport for an emergency landing. There were no injuries or fatalities. More than 24 hours later, one of Air Memphis' Airbus jets arrived to transport the approximately 100 passengers to their destination of Cairo. The DC-9 sat inoperable on the tarmac of Baghdad International Airport for more than one week after the incident, but does now appear to be repaired and back in service [http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1214146/L/] .

*1 McDonnell Douglas MD-83 )
