Louis Milon

Louis-Jacques-Jessé Milon (1766 - 25 November 1845, Neuilly-sur-Seine) was a French ballet dancer and ballet master.

Life

After some years spent as premier danseur at Paris's Académie royale de Musique, he became ballet master at the Ambigu-Comique, where he had much success with Boulevard plays. Summoned to the Paris Opéra as ballet master, he wrote several works for it between 1790 and 1826, mostly also produced on the main stages of Europe. In parallel to his choreography career, he was also the last "grand professeur" of pantomime at the Opéra.

Though not revolutionary, his works were well in line with the tastes of the time and perfectly legible for audiences. With the talented dancer Émilie Bigottini, Milon put on pieces full of fantasy and humour as well as melodramas, with the latter having great success right up to the rise of romantic ballet around 1830.
