Kiddie Korner

"Kiddies Korner" was a hugely popular Sri Lankan educational radio programme series over the airwaves of Radio Ceylon, the oldest radio station in South Asia. The programme enjoyed iconic status in the 1960s and early 1970s in Sri Lanka and across the [Indian sub-continent.

The programme was launched over the Commercial Service of Radio Ceylon during the tenure of the Director Clifford Dodd who came to work for the station via the Colombo Plan. The presenter and producer was the pioneering Radio Ceylon broadcaster Vernon Corea who co-opted an 18 year old American, Craig Thompson, from the Peace Corps who was working in Colombo as a co-presenter of 'Kiddies Korner. 'Uncle Craig' as he was known enjoyed cult status on the island as thousands of children tuned into Radio Ceylon to listen to the educational programme.
