rhizome to a maximum height of 25 to 30 centimeters. There is usually a single basal leaf made up of three large leaflets on a long petiole. There are sometimes more leaves along the mostly naked stem. Theinflorescence has three leaflike bracts and a single flower. The flower has no petals but 5 to 7 petal-likesepal s in any of several colors, usually blue or purple but sometimes reddish, pink, white, or bicolored.
