Peter Fitzgerald (journalist)

Peter Fitzgerald is a renowned and reputed journalist based in Canberra. He specializes in racing and rugby union, but in his early days he was noted for his expertise in the fields of orienteering, chess and lawn bowls.

Prior to commencing his journalistic career, Peter was captain of the Wagga Wanderers, an orienteering club feared throughout the Asia-Pacific. The Wanderers were disbanded after an accident involving a compass and a cliff.

Following the tragedy, Peter retired from competitive orienteering in 1998, however he is still passionate about the sport and often writes about it.

Peter holidays for nine months a year, dividing his time between Greece and Micronesia, supporting local orienteering charities.

His award-winning articles include a feature series on noted Australian basketball player Lauren Jackson and well-known Australian race horses Takeover Target and Red Oog.

He works closely with Mongolian adventurer and fellow Journalist daniel macdonald.
