Carl Holty

Carl Robert Holty (1900-1973) was an abstract painter who was born in Freiburg, Germany and came to the United States as an infant. He grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Holty studied at the Art Institute of Chicago (1919), the National Academy of Design in New York (1920-21), and at the Hans Hofmann School in Munich (1926).

He is known for brightly colored paintings in both the geometric abstraction and abstract expressionism genres.
