Carl Robert Holty (1900-1973) was an abstract painter who was born in
Freiburg, Germany and came to the United States as an infant. He grew up inMilwaukee, Wisconsin . Holty studied at theArt Institute of Chicago (1919), theNational Academy of Design in New York (1920-21), and at theHans Hofmann School in Munich (1926).He is known for brightly colored paintings in both the
geometric abstraction andabstract expressionism genres.Public collections
