XL1 was Buzzcocks frontman Pete Shelley's second solo album. The single "Telephone Operator" charted at #66 in the United Kingdom, making it his biggest single release there.

"XL1" had a different running order in the US, although the content remained the same. In 2005, V.A.R. reissued the original UK version on CD with two b-side "dub" mixes as bonus tracks.
