South Beach Casino & Resort is located just south of
Grand Beach on Hwy 59, about 30 minutes north ofWinnipeg . Situated on the Brokenhead Ojibway First Nation atScanterbury, it is one of two native-owned casinos inManitoba . It is owned by seven Manitoba First Nations and is managed by Hemisphere Gaming MB Co.South Beach Casino opened for business in May 2005. In August 2008, South Beach opened a 95 room hotel adjacent to the casino. The hotel and casino employ approximately 240 people, 57% of whom are aboriginal. First Nations people are employed in all capacities, including management positions such as the Director of Human Resources and the Director of Security.
The mission of South Beach Casino is to provide sustainable economic benefits and opportunities for First Nations communities and create a catalyst for economic development. As of December 2007, combined returns to the seven owners totalled $5 million.
Attracting patrons from Winnipeg and the cottage communities around the south basin of
Lake Winnipeg , the casino includes both table games and 600 gaming machines. The hotel includes 95 luxury rooms and suites, a pool with waterfall, a convert|5000|sqft|m2|sing=on ballroom, and food and beverage facilities. Overnight accommodation allows the casino to market its facilities and services throughout Manitoba, to other Canadians, and to U.S. patrons seeking a gaming resort destination in Manitoba.The owners of South Beach Casino & Resort are committed to sharing their success with surrounding communities. Accordingly, South Beach has to date made more than $1.2 million in charitable donations for a variety of educational, recreational, health and cultural projects.
