Kralendijk

Kralendijk

Kralendijk is the capital city of the island of Bonaire, in the Netherlands Antilles. The main language spoken in the town is Papiamentu, but, because of the town's position on the tourist map, English is widely understood. As of 2006, the town has a population of 3,061.

Off the coast of Kralendijk lies the uninhabited island of Klein Bonaire, a diving and snorkeling paradise. It can be reached by water taxi, or, for divers, by practically all of the local dive operators.

ights and activities

There is a shopping mall in Kralendijk and a main street.

Supermarkets include Cultimara (in downtown Kralendijk) or Warehouse (located on the way to the airport from town).

Near the Town Pier, Venezuelan merchants have a Roman-style covered pavilion where you can find fresh produce, especially fish, fruit and vegetables.

There are fine historical buildings around Wilhelmina Park - the Customs House and the Old Fort close to the Town Pier.

Parades in fancy dress occur at Carnival time in February or March.

Transportation

Kralendijk is served by Flamingo International Airport.
