Benjamin Hunter is a member of the
Indianapolis City County Council, and Chairman of the Public Works Committee, Councilor Benjamin Hunter represents the eastside of Indianapolis. Councilor Hunter won a seat on the 29 member legislative body of the Indianapolis Marion County City-County Council in November 2007. [Indianapolis City-County Council] Councilor Hunter represents the Cumberland and Irvington areas within Marion County. Irvington is the largest historical district in the State of Indiana.Councilor Hunter, as a freshman, was appointed Chair of the Public Works Committee. This committee oversees the budget process for the city's second largest budget, and work force. The Indianapolis City-County Council is a part-time legislative body. Councilor Hunter is a republican and employed as an Indianapolis police officer.
He serves on the Board of Directors for the Peace Learning Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to conflict resolution. [PLC] Hunter got his start working with neighborhood association and groups on the northside of Indianapolis as a police officer. He later went on to serve on other non-profit organizations, including Indiana Partnership to Prevent Firearm Violence and Butler University's Center for Citizenship and Community.
Republicans won back control of the Indianapolis City-County Council in the 2007 election, along with the Mayor's office. Council members serve four-year terms. Hunter held no prior elected office until his election in 2007.
